Privacy policy
Last updated
This policy explains how we handle personal information when you use Hindle, including hindle.app, app.hindle.app, the invitation and RSVP pages we host and the emails we send.
Hindle is run by Orexi Tech Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16813109), with its registered office at 3rd Floor, 86-90 Paul Street, London, EC2A 4NE. We are the controller of the information described here. You can reach us at hello@orexi.co.uk.
What we collect
- Account information from hosts, such as your name and email address.
- Event information you add, such as event details, wording, photos, guest lists and notes about guests.
- Guest replies, such as attendance, who in a household is coming and answers to the host’s questions.
- Payment information, such as your name, email, country and a transaction reference. Our reseller Lemon Squeezy handles the payment itself, and we never see your card details.
- Messages you send us.
- Technical and usage information, such as IP address, device and browser, and how the website and app are used.
Hosts can ask guests about dietary or access needs. These answers can reveal health information, so only share what you are happy for the host to see. You can leave these questions blank.
We use guest information only to deliver invitations and replies for the host who invited them. We never sell personal information or use guest information for marketing.
Why we use it
We use your information to provide Hindle, send service emails, take payments, answer support requests, keep the service secure and improve it.
Our legal bases are:
- Contract: to provide the service you signed up for.
- Legitimate interests: to store guest lists for hosts, keep Hindle secure, provide support and understand how Hindle is used.
- Explicit consent: for dietary or access needs a guest chooses to share.
- Consent: for analytics and marketing cookies.
- Legal obligation: to keep records the law requires, such as for tax.
Who we share it with
We use trusted providers for hosting, email delivery, analytics and payments. They only receive what they need to do their job. Lemon Squeezy, our Merchant of Record, and Meta, if you accept marketing cookies, use information under their own privacy policies.
We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect our users or others, or with a buyer if our business is sold.
Some providers process information outside the UK. When they do, we make sure it is protected by appropriate safeguards, such as a UK adequacy decision or the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.
How long we keep it
We keep information only as long as we need it to provide Hindle, or longer if the law requires it. When you delete your account, we delete your events, guest lists and replies, although copies may remain in backups for a limited time.
Cookies
We use cookies that are strictly necessary to keep you signed in and remember your cookie choices. With your consent, we also use:
- Analytics cookies from PostHog, to understand how people use Hindle. Without consent, PostHog runs without cookies.
- Marketing cookies from the Meta Pixel, to measure our adverts on Facebook and Instagram. We do not load it unless you accept.
You can change your choice at any time using Cookie settings in the footer.
Keeping it safe
We use encryption and other reasonable measures to protect your information. Anyone with an invitation link can open it, so guests should not share theirs. If a breach affects you, we will tell you when the law requires it.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or port your information, to object to how we use it and to withdraw consent at any time. To use these rights, email hello@orexi.co.uk. If you are a guest, we may need to check with the host first.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, please tell us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
Children
Hosts must be 18 or over. We do not knowingly collect information from children, other than a name when a host adds them to a household.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed. We will tell hosts about significant changes.
